AKG K-301 XTRA HEADPHONES
With its clear, well-balanced sound, the K 301 XTRA is an ideal entry model into the sophisticated world of Hi-Fi. It offers perfect sound reproduction over the entire frequency range. This model is our own hot tip as the future favourite in its class!
The K Series launched in 1996 included three new headphone models. The "upper-class" K 401 and K 501 with Varimotion speakers provided unbeatable comfort and sound, while the K 301 had been designed as an entry-level model for this class. With a less luxurious appeal and fewer features than the other K Series headphones, the K 301 were a rugged tool with a brightly accented finish.
However, the K 301 became immensely popular because they turned out to be extremely versatile, deliver an excellent sound due to their newly developed diaphragms immune to unwanted resonances, and provide legendary AKG wearing comfort.
The K 301 have grown up by now and become headphones with a specific character. The time has come for revamping the engineering design and the styling: enter the K 301 XTRA. The same all-round genius as their world-famous predecessors, the K 301 XTRA surprise the audio world with even higher performance and a more mature design than the first version had offered.
The K 301 XTRA have a distinctively cool, nobly futuristic appearance. In spite of their metallic shine evoking associations of "Matrix", these headphones are decidedly cooperative and user-friendly when it comes to wearing comfort. As for engineering, they anticipate the future and provide an accurate sound throughout the entire audio frequency range, with exceptionally powerful bass and an exquisite high end.
The heart of the K 301 XTRA, the XXL speaker, is the same transducer as the one used in the K 141/171/241/271 Studio professional headphones line and in the HEARO 777 Quadra/Quadra de Luxe. This speaker has been modified specifically for the K 301 XTRA and delivers a spectacular sound that leaves nothing to be desired, from low-down bass to smooth mid and finely detailed high-frequency ranges.
Other features include a self-adjusting headband, large leather ear pads, an oxygen-free cable for excellent audio quality, and a hard gold plated mini jack with screw-on 1/4" adapter.
The K 301 XTRA are semi-open, circumaural headphones with a wide frequency range from 18 Hz to 26 kHz, 102 dB sensitivity, and an impedance of 55 ohms.
The K 301 transport the listener into a world of space and sound. With their excellent price/performance ratio, they, too will enthrall a large community of enthusiasts.
The AKG Varimotion speaker The basis of superior audio performance
The heart of any headphone is the diaphragm. Made of extremely thin foil, the diaphragm is required by transducer designers to perform incredible, almost artistic feats. The rim of the diaphragm must vibrate elastically while the center portion should move like a piston. AKG achieved just that by designing the Varimotion system.
The "sound zone" in the center is thicker than the rim and therefore moves like a piston with no partial oscillations. The result is an absolutely realistic sound, with a better sonic perspective and an airier high end. The rim, or "movement zone", is thinner and vibrates more easily, providing a powerful, punchy bass range.
Each individually tested and numbered K-301 XTRA comes in its own storage cradle, which in turn is enclosed in a presentation case.
