TheAudioengine 2 (A2) Premium Powered Desktop Speakers is the perfect upgrade for your computer, iPod, and all your music; it's the new standard for multimedia sound and closes the gap between computer speakers and home audio.
Creating powered multimedia speakers to follow the Audioengine 5 was a challenge, but we feel we‘ve managed to duplicate the signature sound of the Audioengine 5‘s in a much smaller package perfectly suited for your desktop or a smaller space in your home or office. The Audioengine 2 (A2) Premium Powered Desktop Speakers is a great introduction to high-quality audio and the perfect upgrade for your computer or iPod.
The Audioengine 2 (A2) Premium Powered Desktop Speakers (A2) is about one-third the size of our flagship Audioengine 5 system and is an excellent computer audio upgrade or small room speaker. We used the same custom tweeters as the Audioengine 5, matched them with newly designed compact Kevlar woofers and then added high-performance amplifiers with gold-plated speaker connectors. All this great engineering is wrapped in wood cabinets with a hand-polished finish to create a premium quality desktop multimedia speaker system that puts all those sad plastic computer speakers to shame!
To say that the bass on the Audioengine 2 (A2) Premium Powered Desktop Speakers is substantial for their size may be an understatement, but you should be the judge. The bass was coaxed from the A2 with some very clever acoustic and electrical design and without using any DSP or fake bass boost circuits. Wood remains a preferred speaker enclosure material for its stiffness at higher volume levels and the sealed cabinet focuses just the right amount of low end from the tuned front port slots.
The A2 was designed for your desktop but is also perfect for smaller rooms. Well-suited for all types of music, movies, and videogames, the A2 sounds great with or without a subwoofer. Using a similar design as the Audioengine 5, the A2 power amplifiers are built inside the left speaker, providing a very efficient system. An auto-sleep standby feature is also included to conserve power when you're not playing music.
We’ve included 1/8 mini jack and RCA inputs so connecting A2 is easy. No software installs, plug-ins, or sound card upgrades. Just connect the audio output (or headphone jack) from your computer, iPod, Airport Express, Sonos system, PSP - or any other audio device - into the A2 rear panel input. All cables that you may need are included.
The Audioengine 2 (A2) Premium Powered Desktop Speakers sets a new level of audio and aesthetic quality for Powered Multimedia Speakers and further closes the gap between computer speakers and home audio. Even if you're not an audio enthusiast, we guarantee you will still hear a difference!Features
Stereophile - A2 Review
"I have never been more impressed with or more stunned by a component I've reviewed for Stereophile than I was with the Audioengine 2 (A2) Premium Powered Desktop Speakers. The level of sound quality produced by this uncolored, detailed, articulate, and dynamic speaker, in all situations, was beyond reproach, and its ratio of value to cost borders on the criminal."

PC World - A2 Review
"Clearly geared toward accurate music reproduction, the speakers offered remarkable imaging and excellent transparency in my tests, which I performed after 30 hours of burn-in... The Audioengine A2 speaker set should be on the short list of anyone who values good musical reproduction over chest-thumping bass."

"The Audioengine 2 (A2) Premium Powered Desktop Speakers Desktop Speakers are a true piece of audiophile engineering in the smallest physical enclosure I've ever seen or heard. This is a winning design and the only specification better then the price is the sound."
Positive Feedback - A2 Review
"In a recent issue of Stereophile, Robert J. Reina went nuts over the Audioengine 2 (A2) Premium Powered Desktop Speakers powered loudspeakers. Okay so in reading his comments one can assume that these speakers are the second coming of someone's something or other, so I just had to put into a request to the guys at Audioengine to get me a pair. So how good are they? Uh… yeah, they are good. Very good indeed."

6Moons.com - A2 CES Coverage "The Audioengine2 speakers are some cool little performers at $199/ pair. We bought a pair of 2s with a few clicks on the AudioEngine website for our pair of daughters and we're all thrilled. I'm still holding out for the bamboo-clad 2s which are due out "soon". And it's always a plus when the guys behind the company are some of the nicest around."

"At $199 they are more expensive than most computer speakers but they are so much better than most computer speakers. In fact you may not want to limit these speakers to your desk. If you have a SONOS, Squeezebox, or Apple Airport Express with Airtunes you should consider the Audioengine A2..."
PB|Central.com - A2 Review
"As nice as the A2s are to set up and look at, it's the sound that really matters. The A2s I tested sound wonderful. With 60 watts of power coming from amps built into the left speaker cabinet, the A2s have plenty of punch to be used as sound system in any small-sized room. In other words, if the A5s are too big to put where you want to put 'em, odds are the A2s will do the job quite nicely."

"The AudioEngine A2s aren't flashy or feature-rich, but in this price range they're one of a kind for classic stereo sound. If you're cramped for space, or want an understated set of great-sounding speakers, we heartily recommend the A2."

"It's been a while since a product has come my way that I was seriously impressed with. The price of the udioengine 2 speakers is very good considering the quality, living up to the marketing claim of 'bridging the audiophile gap'. Yes, this is the cheapest 'mid-end' range there is."

"I was flabbergasted (I don't think I've ever used that word in a review before...) the first time I heard these speakers in action. Wow! They sound very much like the A5's, which means that they sound great! ...the bass is amazing and they are truly head and shoulders better sounding than other desktop speakers that I've owned in the

"The A2s replaced a set of Altec Lansing speakers wired to my new iMac 24. I was very satisfied with the Altecs. However, when I turned on the A2s, I was literally stunned by how good they sounded and how good they made music sound. The Audioengine 2 (A2) Premium Powered Desktop Speakerss are not just great. They are extraordinary sounding speakers. They are so awesome that you actually WANT to listen to music because it sounds new and special, and that's enjoyable."

"The audioengine 2’s have a surprisingly big and mature sound for such a small size, I compared them to my much larger Alesis Monitor One powered studio monitors which really isn’t a fair comparison but surprisingly they sounded remarkably similar to my Monitor Ones."
Enjoy The Music - A2 Review
"They sound quite good not just when sitting in front of them, but also when outside the room and listening in. Some loudspeakers have this 'cone of perfection,' a super small area where everything sounds good, yet the moment you move away from this small 'cone' location the sound goes to crap in a hurry. The Audioengine does not fit into that, fortunately, ever-dwindling category of loudspeakers."
Digital Trends - A2 Review
"Audioengine recently announced the little brother to the A5, the A2 desktop speaker set. The A2 speakers are roughly half the size of the A5 and don't put out quite as much power, but seem to have just as much intensity per cubic inch as the A5's. If it wasn't for the solid reputation Audioengine has built for itself, it'd be very hard to believe that the A2 speakers can pump out a hefty 60W peak power. Which is anywhere from two to five times that of other 2.0 desktop speakers."
Real HT Info - A2 Review
"These are fantastic little speakers that put 99% of Computer Speakers and iPod Docks to shame. They even give traditional bookshelves a run for their money, despite having a footprint of only 4" x 5.5". The A2s produce a full sound, complete with good bass, and get loud enough to rock an office, or fill a small/medium room at slightly lower volumes. At $200 shipped, consider me hugely impressed. For this quality of sound, at this size, and at this price, I don't know of any competition for the A2."
iOnMac - A2 Review
"Audioengine has done it again. After wowing us with the A2’s big brother the A5, Audioengine has once again made us drool just a little with the sound and style of the newest addition to their line up, the A2. Audioengine has an eye for design, and that is a fact. All of the style that went in to the A5 is back again in a speaker that is 1/3 the size of it’s big brother. Upon first opening the box you will see that everything is wrapped up in to soft cloth pouches."
