Native Instruments just announced TRAKTOR DUO and TRAKTOR SCRATCH DUO, two new DJ solutions that bring the quality and creative functionality of the acclaimed TRAKTOR DUO platform into a new price range, offering an affordable entry into the world of digital DJing.

The new TRAKTOR DUO software, which is also at the heart of TRAKTOR SCRATCH DUO, offers many of the advanced features of TRAKTOR DUO in an easy-to-use two-deck configuration. It is based on the same concise, performance-optimized user interface, and offers a host of intuitive DJ features like auto-syncing, looping, integrated EQs and filters, and more. Automatic beat-gridding in combination with the "Sync Lock" function makes sure that the tracks in TRAKTOR DUO never drift out of sync, giving users more time to focus on the creative aspects of digital mixing. Extensive "Crate Flick" cover artwork support also allows users to visually browse music libraries in an especially efficient way.

TRAKTOR SCRATCH DUO combines the DUO software with the robust and full-featured AUDIO 4 DJ 24bit/96 kHz audio interface into a professional time-code controlled DJ system. Both powerful and highly affordable, TRAKTOR SCRATCH DUO is the two-deck DVS solution for users that do not want to compromise on quality in any way. Native Instruments has announced a new version of its Traktor DJ software, Traktor Duo. The title is based on the high-level Traktor Pro suite, but scales down from four decks to two. Duo also provides two effects sections with only six effects each, such as filter, delay, flanger and reverb. Likewise missing are some streaming, recording, MIDI and sync options.

The software otherwise retains many of the features of Traktor Pro, such as loops, filters, beat-grids, auto-sync and sync lock, as well as the more recent Crate Flick browsing system that mimics Cover Flow. The app is moreover available as part of the new Traktor Scratch Duo bundle, which includes the Audio 4 DJ interface, supporting 24-bit 96kHz output and control of Traktor through turntables and CD decks.

Traktor Pro currently comes in 2 flavors depending on the style of control you prefer, Traktor Scratch Pro and Traktor Pro, which offer DVS functionality or Midi Control respectively. Native Instruments has announced 2 “light” versions of the software which offer the core functionality at a reduced price. The name of the new software, Traktor Duo and Traktor Scratch Duo, highlight the major difference. These new versions only offer 2 decks instead of 4 among other slight limitations.

TRAKTOR SCRATCH DUO is a lower cost Vinyl control packaged aimed straight at competing with Serato Scratch. At $400, its a pretty good value considering that includes control vinyl, a good sound card and some nice software features. While the software may not do everything the pro version does it is still has a lot of the features you are missing in Serato like 3 independent Fx slots per deck and cover art scrolling.

Duo has the same vinyl control engine as Traktor Scratch. The overall feel is light years beyond vinyl control in Traktor 3. The Traktor Duo and Pro scratch system is built on a 2khz time code, which should perform better while moving the platter back and forth slowly. If the record is moving slowly, the time code moves lower in pitch and really slow movements can possibly lower the code’s frequency out of range of the software. So the idea is, make the time code 2khz (instead of serato’s 1khz) and it will pick up more movements. Your going to have to ask the real scratch artists if it actually makes a difference.

So you have tight record control, a good audio interface (the same converters as the larger audio 8) and Traktor software all for $399.
